Weight loss and isotonic sports drinks such as Gatorade, Powerade, Isostar, etc.



If you are trying to lose weight and you are not a professional sports person, having an isotonic sports drink while you are exercising could be the worst choice, since many of these drinks contain many calories.

Which are isotonic sports drinks? They are those drinks that contain electrolytes, carbohydrates, and are used to get you help to rehydrate while exercising. Some of the brands available in the market are Gatorade, Isostar, Powerade, to mention a few.

If you work out for about 40 minutes, you will loose around 250 calories, but if you drink half a liter of an isotonic drink while you exercise and you drink another half a liter when you finish, you will get back those calories you have just lost running.

Gatorade, for example, contains 125 calories in half a liter. So the best choice is to drink water while exercising or to find other low calorie drinks in the market.

A professional sports person who trains for one hour or more, does need to rehydrate with the help of this type of drinks, but remember that isotonic sports drinks are not recommended for those people who exercise and are seeking to lose weight.
